AirBit Membership co-founder Gutemberg dos Santos has been sentenced to 40 months in jail (3.3 years).
Dos Santos’ sentence was handed down on October 4th, following sentencing hearings for co-conspirators Renato Rodriguez, Cecilia Millan, Karina Chairez and Scott Hughes.
Dos Santos and Rodrigues co-founded AirBit Membership in 2015. The Ponzi scheme would finally go on to defraud customers out of round $100 million.
Following AirBit Membership’s collapse, indictments dropped in August 2020.
Along with Gutemberg’s sentencing earlier immediately, we have now:
- Renato Rodriguez (co-founder) was sentenced to 12 years in jail on September twenty sixth
- Cecilia Millan (high promoter) was sentenced to 5 years in jail on October third
- Karina Chairez (high promoter, proper) was sentenced to at least one 12 months and at some point in jail on October third
- Scott Hughes (legal professional and cash launderer) was sentenced to eighteen months in jail on October third
Jackie Aguilar, one other AirBit Membership promoter, was additionally charged.
Aguilar pled responsible however handed away previous to sentencing.
On the cash aspect of issues, $65 million forfeiture was beforehand consented to as a part of the Airbit Membership Defendant’s responsible pleas.
The DOJ has till January 2nd, 2024 to file a movement requesting an extra forfeiture order.
